About Hunov & Haffgaard
Hunov & Haffgaard is a small publishing house based in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. We publish graphic novels by new and not-yet-well-known illustrators and graphic artists — but we’re also open to more established comic creators who want to experiment. What all our artists have in common is the desire to tell a good story while offering the eyes a pleasant visual challenge.
It’s our ambition that every publication from Hunov & Haffgaard should be “Cool, Edgy & Exclusive”, so that the reader gets a rich visual and sensory reading experience. And if you end up having a bit of fun along the way or experience a quirky take on life’s absurdities, we are more than happy.
Who We Are
Just as the world of comics is filled with great partnerships — Valérian and Laureline, Yoko and Vic, Gladstone Gander and Grandma Duck, Kurdy and Jeremiah, Pirelli and Firestone — Hunov & Haffgaard teamed up in 2019 to publish zines, comics, and books that we are passionate about.
In the words of Pippi Longstocking: “I’ve never tried that before, so I’m sure I can do it!” — we jumped headfirst into the world of publishing without hesitation. We are also good friends and have known each other for many years through concerts in the darker corners of the Copenhagen music scene, sharing a love for music with a hard edge like Punk, Noise, Post-Punk, and Industrial. Haffgaard loves synthesizers and is less keen on guitar shredding. Hunov has a deep-rooted fear of brass instruments.
We are both big fans of iconic design — Bauhaus, Dieter Rams, Verner Panton, Brutalism, Space Age graphics, and retro Sci-Fi — and, of course, we have a huge love for comics.
Our goal with the publishing house is to help the illustrators we like take a step forward by delivering a carefully crafted publication to the readers. We always appreciate the experimental and the bold. Our focus is on good storytelling and personal style. With every release, we aim to add that extra something that makes it a truly enjoyable reading experience — quality paper and beautiful covers included.
